And now for our director:

Billy Ray, Jr.

Billy Ray, Jr. is currently the director of instrumental music at the St. John and Endicott Cooperative School District and has been since 1988.  Prior to moving to southeast Washington he taught in the Ellensburg School District for one year.  He received his B.A. in music education in 1987 from Central Washington University and has been active in MENC since 1982.  Billy was also a member of the W.I.A.A. State Music Committee representing southeast Washington for several years.  Under his direction, the St. John-Endicott High School Wind Ensemble has received superior ratings at contest throughout the majority of his tenure and was recognized in 2002, 2007, 2008 and 2009 as "Academic State Champs".  His high school wind ensemble and high school jazz band tour each year throughout Washington, Oregon, California, and Idaho and once every four years to Disneyland.  He has also hosted events at St. John-Endicott High School and Endicott-St. John Middle School.  The communities of St. John and Endicott have been recognized in 2003, 2008, and 2009 by receiving the prestigious award entitled ÒBest 100 Communities for Music Education in AmericaÓ.

Billy is in demand as clinician, adjudicator, and conductor in the Pacific Northwest.  As a clinician, he has spoken at the All-State Convention several times throughout his career.  His role in southeast Washington has been an active one.  He served as president from 1992-1994, 2004-2006, and received the "Outstanding Music Educator Award" for southeast Washington in 1994.  In 1998 he was listed in "Who's Who In American Education" and again in 2002.  Also, in 2002, 2003, 2004, and in 2006 he was listed in "Who's Who In America" as well as the "International Who's Who" in 2004.  Billy's colleagues in southeast Washington recently nominated him for the prestigious award of Washington State Music Educator Of The Year for 2006.  His adjudicating services have included regions in Washington and Idaho.  As a professional musician he has performed with the Lewis and Clark State College Jazz Band as well as teaches privately to students and adults alike.  He has also helped to screen auditions for the WMEA All-State Band, the P.L.U. Northwest Honor Band, and the Music in May Honor Band at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon.  His guest conducting experiences include the Western International Band Clinic, the Southeast Washington Honor Band, and several sectional rehearsals with the Music in May Honor Band.

Billy's other duties include Athletic Director for the middle school as well as substitute bus driver.  His wife, Claudette, also shares Billy's understanding for the love of music.  She has been his support and main source of inspiration throughout his career.  Also, Billy and Claudette are truly blessed to be the proud parents of Jazmyn and Kierstyn, their two daughters.
