Be to class on time and with all the necessary tools required for the class, which includes your textbook, calculator, notebook, pencil, and any other items that the teacher requires. If you do not have them with you and you need to go to your locker and get an item you will be considered tardy that class period.
You are allowed one (1) unexcused tardy per quarter, the first tardy will result in a warning and each additional tardy will each carry a 30-minute detention. The fourth tardy will result in referral to the principal.
Make-up work and late homework will follow school policy that can be found in your student handbook.
If you are absent on the day before, or the day of a test or quiz, you will be required to take that test or quiz the day you return.
Extra Credit:
In the interest of encouraging the student to do more problems, which translates into more practice and more proficiency, and therefore, better grades, up to five (5) additional problems not assigned may be performed per assignment as extra credit. These problems must be from the even numbered problems only; no odd numbered problems will count as extra credit. Please note that these problems will primarily serve to make up for any other problem in the assignment the student may have missed and are not a substitute for the regular assignment. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!!! I do not plan to offer any other type of extra credit.
Homework:
Excellence in mathematics cannot be achieved without a certain amount of practice. Homework is a necessary part of this practice. Homework to mathematics is like football practice to the big game. You cannot win unless you practice! You cannot do algebra if you do not do your homework!
Work:
Mr. Kemper expects the student to show all work for each problem. Mr. Kemper understands that it may be possible to do many, if not most, problems using a calculator without the need of writing out the process. Please do not do this. Although it does mean more writing, Mr. Kemper expects you to write out each problem. You will not receive credit for any problem where work is not shown. Any exception to this policy will be communicated to you the day of assignment. Otherwise, in order to receive credit, the student must show work.
