East Coast Bound Our students in school read and learn about our history and American culture in books, but traveling with East Coast Bound students are able to visit and explore through discovery what they have read about in books. Open to all students in six through ninth grades from Endicott and St. John Schools (and their parents!) is the opportunity to take a trip of a lifetime to such destinations as Washington D.C., and New York City. Students explore our history in such places as the Smithsonian Institute, meeting our congressmen and touring our Nation's Capitol Building. They can visit the various war memorials such as the Vietnam Wall, Korean War Memorial, Iwo Jima Statue, and the World War II War Memorial, as well as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery. Students learn about our Presidents by visiting places such as the Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin Roosevelt Memorials, and Mount Vernon, home of George Washington. The National Archives, Holocaust Museum, and Ford's Theater contain overwhelming information about our countries history. While in New York, students visit the Rockerfeller Center, walk down Fifth Avenue and through Central Park. They also visit Ground Zero on their way to the Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island. Exploring the Empire State Building, St. John's Cathedral and the National Cathedral are just a few of the architectural wonders of the city. Students and their parents ride the subways and take in some of the nightlife by attending a broadway show. Our next scheduled trip is June 2008, which will be heading to Washington D.C. and New York City. Plans are in the works for a trip to take place June 2009. For further information about either trip, contact bgonzalez@endicott.wednet.edu. Check out our powerpoint presentations of past trips. (Boston/New York, and Washington, D.C..) |
